Objectives and profile
The master’s degree course of the Postgraduate Program in Automation and Systems Engineering (PosAutomação) aims to study, develop and propose methods, techniques and tools for representation, analysis, design and implementation of automated solutions for various application areas and is intended to serve students from various engineering courses or other scientific backgrounds, as well as professionals seeking additional training.
The professional who graduates from the course will have acquired a multidisciplinary education, with a high technical-scientific level in the areas of control, instrumentation, automation and computer systems, and will have developed a critical and innovative spirit that will allow him/her to apply, create, disseminate and transfer scientific and technological knowledge in Automation. After graduation, the graduate may work in both the professional and academic sectors.
This training will qualify the graduate to perform activities related to the design, implementation, operation and maintenance of automated units, as well as provide the basis for advanced studies (doctorate) in this area.
In order to cater to students with different characteristics in terms of dedication, professional experience and activity, the academic master’s degree is offered in two formats: full-time and part-time:
A full-time academic master’s degree is intended for students who are exclusively dedicated to the course;
A part-time academic master’s degree is intended for professionals who are active during the course.
Credits
The number of credits required to obtain the academic master’s degree is 18 credits in subjects (1 credit corresponds to 15 class hours) and 6 credits for the master’s dissertation.

Duration
The expected duration for completion of the course is 24 months.
Selection
The selection process for the full-time academic master’s degree is annual, carried out three months before the start of the academic year (March), based on the analysis of the application dossier. In the case of the part-time academic master’s degree (aimed at professionals who continue their activity during the master’s degree, except in the case of teachers), the selection will be based on the analysis of the application dossier and a preliminary proposal for a dissertation work, linked to the candidate’s activity.
