Objectives and profile

The doctoral course of the Postgraduate Program in Automation and Systems Engineering (PosAutomação) aims to offer training for and through research in this area. This training should be conceptually solid and comprehensive based on a set of subjects to be taken by the doctoral student. This training should be as in-depth as possible on the research topic to be developed in the thesis. The course plan must be proposed by the student and his/her advisor before starting the doctoral course and approved by the selection committee. The subjects are the same as those of the academic master’s degree, to which the subjects of Advanced Topics in Automation and Systems Engineering and Guided Topics in Automation and Systems Engineering may be added.

Some information about the program:

  • PosAutomação participates in the Academic Excellence Program by CAPES (PROEX) with a score of 6 (maximum of 7).
  • PosAutomação researchers have a prominent role in research, having several projects and partnerships with companies and institutions of national and international excellence.
  • More than half of the professors have a CNPq research productivity grant.
  • PosAutomação has several international partnerships with the possibility of exchange programs.

 

The documents required for registration approval are defined in each notice, but generally include:

  • Doctoral candidates who already have a master’s degree must also include their academic transcript from the master’s course;
  • For PhD candidates who have a master’s degree, a copy of the master’s degree is also required;
  • Valid identification document with photo for Brazilian candidates;
  • Passport with photo and personal data for foreign candidates;

  • Research project;
  • Two reference letters completed by university professors or higher education professionals who can give an opinion on the candidate’s suitability for advanced studies. It is possible to attach a single reference letter, as long as it is from the master’s advisor.

Credits

The number of credits required to obtain the doctorate degree is 30 credits in courses (1 credit corresponds to 15 class hours) and 12 credits from the doctoral thesis.

Duration

The expected duration for completion of the course is 48 months.

The selection process for the full-time academic doctorate is continuous, based on the analysis of the application dossier.
